Cavallino Treporti by bike
Exploring Cavallino Treporti by bike means experiencing the area at a different pace. Here, a bike is not just a means of transport, but the best way to immerse yourself in nature and reach places that might otherwise go unnoticed if travelling by car.
With over 60 km of flat, well-connected cycle paths, the coastline is an ideal destination both for cycling enthusiasts and for those wishing to spend a pleasant day in the open air.
Among the many possible routes, the one leading to Lio Piccolo is undoubtedly the most representative: a simple route, rich in views and perfect for discovering the true spirit of Cavallino Treporti.
📍 Stage 1 – The seafront and the Pordelio cycle path
The ideal starting point is the Cavallino Treporti seafront. From here, you can join the spectacular Pordelio cycle and footpath, one of the area’s most iconic features.
Stretching over 7 kilometres and overlooking the lagoon, this walkway offers a unique view of the water and allows you to cycle in complete safety. It’s a route suitable for everyone and, on its own, is reason enough to choose to explore Cavallino Treporti by bike.
Take the time to stop at the viewpoints: the view of the lagoon changes constantly and offers perfect scenes for a souvenir photograph.
📍 Stage 2 – The Via del Respiro
Continuing along the route, you’ll reach the Via del Respiro, a road surrounded by nature that gently leads you towards the most authentic part of the area.
Here, the landscape changes once again: the beach resorts give way to vegetable gardens, canals and cultivated countryside, whilst the silence of the lagoon takes centre stage.
It’s the perfect stretch to slow down and enjoy the journey, taking in a landscape that still retains its authentic character to this day.
đź’ˇ Our tip
Set off early in the morning or in the late afternoon. As well as avoiding the hottest part of the day, you’ll be able to admire the lagoon bathed in particularly evocative light – ideal for photography enthusiasts too.
📍 Stage 3 – Lio Piccolo
The heart of the itinerary is undoubtedly Lio Piccolo, one of Cavallino Treporti’s most iconic spots.
To reach it, you follow a scenic road that crosses the lagoon amongst salt marshes, canals and ancient fishermen’s huts. It is one of the most beautiful routes along the entire Venetian coastline and is an unmissable stop for nature lovers.
The small village, clustered around its church, retains an atmosphere as if frozen in time. On the right days, you may even spot pink flamingos, which have been a permanent fixture in this part of the lagoon for several years now.
It’s well worth stopping here for a few minutes, taking a stroll and simply letting yourself be captivated by the tranquillity of the place.
📍 Stage 4 – a detour to Le Mesole
If you still have some energy left and want to extend your walk, you can carry on to Le Mesole, a small village nestled in the lagoon countryside.
This stretch is less well-known but reveals yet another side to Cavallino Treporti: vineyards, vegetable gardens, farmhouses and country lanes alternate with views of the lagoon, offering an authentic experience far from the more popular routes.
This detour is particularly recommended for those who enjoy a leisurely cycle and discovering the area’s less touristy corners.
📍Return journey
Once your visit is over, you can retrace the same route back towards the coast or choose one of the alternative routes on the cycle network to return to your starting point.
Whichever route you decide to take, the return journey will give you the chance to view the landscape from a different perspective and discover new sights that you might have missed on the way there.
