How to get to Venice from Cavallino Treporti
If you’re staying in Cavallino Treporti, you’ll have the privilege of visiting Venice on a day trip without having to drive into the city.
The most convenient option is to set off from Punta Sabbioni, the main embarkation point for reaching the historic centre by vaporetto, arriving just a short walk from St Mark’s Square.
Here’s everything you need to know to plan your day trip.
📍 Getting to Punta Sabbioni
From Cavallino Treporti, simply head to Punta Sabbioni, which is easily accessible by car, bike or public transport.
If you’re travelling by car, there are several pay-and-display car parks near the pier, open throughout the tourist season. From here, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the ACTV boarding points.
💡 Our tip
In July and August, it’s best to arrive early in the morning, especially if you’re travelling by car. The car parks closest to the ferry terminal tend to fill up quickly.
Which vaporetto should you take?
To reach Venice from Punta Sabbioni, the most popular service is operated by ACTV.
The routes to bear in mind are:
- Route 14: connects Punta Sabbioni to San Zaccaria, with a stop at the Lido. The journey takes around 35 minutes.
- Route 15: a direct (express) service between Punta Sabbioni and San Zaccaria, operating at certain times during the season. It is the quickest option when available.
Both routes arrive at the San Zaccaria stop, located about a 5-minute walk from St Mark’s Square.
Tickets and journey time
The 75-minute ACTV ticket is valid for travelling to Venice and using the public transport network within the specified time. If, however, you plan to travel by vaporetto several times during the day, it may be worth buying a day pass or a multi-day pass.
Tickets can be purchased directly at the ticket offices in Punta Sabbioni or online before departure.
What to see in Venice
When you alight at the San Zaccaria stop, you’ll find yourself right in the heart of the city.
From here, you can reach the following in just a few minutes:
- St Mark’s Square;
- the Doge’s Palace;
- the Bridge of Sighs;
- the Riva degli Schiavoni.
And from here, you can decide whether to explore Venice on foot or use the vaporetti to reach other districts of the city.
How much time should you set aside for your visit?
A day is enough to visit the city’s most iconic sights and soak up the atmosphere, but a Venetian would tell you that “a whole lifetime wouldn’t be enough to discover Venice!”.
So if you have more time to spare, you could venture into less touristy neighbourhoods such as Cannaregio or Dorsoduro, or combine your visit with a trip to the islands of the lagoon.
